Development Notes
This was the original front page of the site while I was developing the layout. Preserved here for no apparent reason.

Yes, I redesigned it again. I just have a thing about monochrome. It also gave me a chance to have a play with Adobe® Illustrator®. Very nice tool to work with, makes doing text and vector images so much easier; the Slice tool works wonderfuly. I'm not happy with the compass rose in the background yet: I shall redesign it at some point; there's too much solid "black" in the centre.
All I have to do now is make the CSS1 look right in MSIE. God I hate that browser. I hate it so much. Please, for heaven's sake Microsoft, make a damn browser that follows standards properly.
OK. I've got it so that it's at least readable in IE now. It's not exactly the same as it would be in a Standards Compliant browser, but it's as close as I'm going to get. Do yourselves a favour and ditch IE.
Hmm, what do we think. #FFFFFF or #FAFAFA (a just off-white grey colour) for the background? I've set it to the grey colour to see if it's easier to read - I think it might be. I'll need to redo the PNG file (can't use transparent ones, IE borks).
I've re-done the compass rose - it's slightly more stylised now - I think it looks better.
1: Except, as far as I can tell, MSIE doesn't support the "print" media type, so the print style sheet will never work with it. However, it works perfectly in Firefox. P.S. Do you like the footnotes?
